Well, things are moving right along. Fabrication has now started this month (April) on A4702, so I need to catch you up on a few things. So having made the decision to go with the Archipelago 47, we worked for several weeks on the spec for the boat. It’s 21 pages long . Introduction
The Archipelago 47 is designed as a lightweight, offshore leisure vessel balancing practicality and simplicity with sea-keeping and comfort. It is designed from the outset to be a diesel-electric [solar] hybrid vessel, featuring short-distance silent running from electric propulsion, and high speeds from diesel.
This specific Archipelago 47 (A4702) has been developed to provide a comfortable live-aboard environment for a couple, alongside comfortable guest accommodation for up to two persons, plus temporary further accommodation for 2 (2+2+2 configuration). Internal dining is designed for up to four people, comfortably, with six occasionally.
Mobility and accessibility should be paramount in the interior design, including excellent handholds and accessories to aid stability at sea.
Lifesaving equipment, and specification is designed for up to 8 persons on board.
- Length Overall 14.5 metres (15.2m with aft platform – tbc)
- Length waterline 14.5 metres
- Beam overall 6.5 metres

- Displacement (Lightship) 18 tonnes approx. (margined)
- Displacement (Fully Laden) 24 tonnes approximate
- Scantling displacement 30 tonnes
- Vessel Height from keel c. 4.5m (excluding aerials and mast)

- Fuel capacity 3,000l Total - (2 x 1500 liters)
- Fresh Water capacity 800 l Total (2 x 350 l cold, plus 2 x 50 l hot)
- Grey /Black combined capacity 600 l Total (2 x 300 l)
- The hull and bulkheads are of all-welded marine grade aluminium construction.
- The deck and deckhouse are of all-welded marine grade aluminium construction.
- It is anticipated that the vessel will have a net aluminium weight of approx. 10 tonnes, unmargined.
- The main vessel space, for the purposes of the document, is split into six main areas:
- salon / living-space,
- wheelhouse,
- owner’s suite,
- guest accommodation (VIP cabin, day heads),
- fore cabin
- aft deck
- foredeck
All galley equipment is to be chosen by the customer, in consultation with the builder. Galley cooking appliances by Bosch as standard. All cooking appliances will run from the vessels 230VAC system. As default the following should be provided:
- Four-burner induction hob
- Fridge freezer
- Oven / Microwave
- Extractor fan or downdraft extractor
- One Lewmar S/S 30kg delta anchor is to be stowed forward resting underneath the forward section of the bow-trampoline structural support. The anchor is to have a double-joint swivelling connector.
- A chain counter is to be provided, with a display at the helm.
- The vessel is to be supplied with 50m of s/s chain of 8mm diameter, and 100m of rode.
- Docking system
- A wireless docking system such as Dockmate is to be provided as per Vessel Technical Specification, and fitted / commissioned.
- Main Engines
The parallel hybrid electrical drive system will be provided by e-Motion and will consist 2 x Yanmar engines running at 440hp, and 2 x electric motors with a nominal specification of 150kW. This system will be of integral clutched gearbox type. The motors will be able to work as alternators to charge the lithium bank, when driven by the main engines.
- The DC system is to be a 2 wire fully insulated system and is to consist of the following:
- Main lithium system, controlling electric propulsion and 230VAC system via inverter, provided by e-Motion.
- 24V house system, controlling all house loads and command and control
- Solar array mounted on the roof, through an appropriate control system to charge house bank
- (depending on engine choice, tbd):12V engine start system Port and Starboard – lead-acid, separate from main house system
- Bow Thruster
- Two bow thrusters are fitted, one per hull.
